Action Thriller

An action thriller is when you combine the aspects of action and intensity with the suspenseful nature of a thriller. This is a very common sub-genre. An example of an action-thriller would be The Dark Knight

 

Crime Thriller

A crime thriller is when the aspects of a crime film would also be incorporated with a thriller. Crime films are based on the aspect of heinous crimes, for example, Pelham 123. This is based on a group hijacking a train and holding people hostage, for a ransom. This would be an example of a crime thriller.  

 

Horror Thriller

A horror thriller is when horror is combined with the thriller genre. This sub-genre may consist of extreme violence and suspense. An example of this would be Saw

 

Physiological Thriller

In which the conflict between the main characters is mental and emotional, rather than physical, until the end of the narrative in which the scenes become physically violent. Characters, either by accident or their own curiousness, are dragged into a dangerous conflict or situation that they are not prepared to resolve. For example, Case 39 is an example of this.

 

Erotic Thriller

An erotic thriller is based on suspense however has the aspects of a sexual relationship or sexual thoughts.

 

Legal Thriller

This is when a legal drama is combined with a thriller. The main characters of this genre would be either lawyers or law students.

 

Political Thriller

A sub-genre that revolves around the government. The protagonist could try to expose them for wrong doings or protect the government from outside threats. An example of this is the film “A man who knew too much”

 

Comedy Thriller

When a comedy is combined with thriller. An example of this would be Scary Movie

 

Spy Thriller

When spies are the main character and they must resolve a national problem. An example of this would be James Bond

 

Techno Thriller

A subgenre of Thriller in which the manipulation of technology plays a major part.
