I think this movie follows the Enigma Code (Barthes) because you don’t really know anything about the protagonist, you’re left to want to know more about him.
  • J-Cut - when he’s saying that he’s the next great magician
  • Straight cut, from the sea to where he’s going up the stairs
  • Match Cut when the guy finds the second spoon in his sleeve
  • Match on Action - cuts while he’s still walking up the stairs
  • Jump Cuts - camera is on him, then on the audience.
These are used to create the genre because you don’t know what exactly is going on, you have to really focus on the movements.
Due to the fact that you don't really understand what exactly is going on you are hooked instantly and therefore the audience wants to keep on watching it.
