3 Editing techniques i didn't use in the rough cut

In the rough cut I didn't use L or J cuts because there was only a couple of scenes where there was talking so the audience needed to know who is talking so that the don't get confused so early on in the film.

Also i didn't use any green screens in the opening scene because as a group we felt that there was no need for it as we had all the locations we needed. Furthermore we felt that the green screen in effects didn't look as realistic as we wanted for our scene meaning we went for perfection over convenience.

In rough cut we didn't add any colour isolation as we couldn't decide on where it should go, however in the final cut we thought that the colour isolation would be good for Mariana's character when she is walking past the stalker/detective to make it so that her character stands out rather than the stalker/detective.

Locations chosen for filming

Underpass to George Abbot Secondary School
This underpass is to be used as a scene in our opening sequence due to the secluded nature of this location.

Science Classroom
A science classroom will be used as a dark room due to the equipment that is avaliable in the science classrooms that is needed to give the appearence of a dark room (large trays, etc.)

Drama studio
The drama studio will be used for the interrogation room as the room has stagelights and light can be easily blocked out, making it perfect for an interrogation room.

Study room
The study room is to be used for the stalker's board of his victim because it has a large whiteboard that pictures and similar items can be pinned up on.

Charlie's house
Charlie's house is to be used as the residence of the girl's boyfriend due to it being close to the school, where most of our filming will take place.

Story board update

Our storyboard has been updated so that we have changed our story because the previous one didn't fit together to make a full film. We have kept the question room with the detective and girl but the detective is sending the girl's boyfriend death threats. In the opening scene we have story boarded a flashback to a person creating the death threats and then posting it to a house. the final shot is of the detective's face.

Planning - Group Photos

Planning consisted of us discussing locations where each scene would take place in and and what type of shots we would use. It also consisted on us considering the whole plot of the story and what would happen for the rest of the movie, not just the opening scene.
We finalised the plot line and made sure everyone knew what the final idea was, we also made sure that we had noted down what movements there would be involved while recording, for example panning from left to right or zooming in or out.

Actors selection

Mariana - girl (left)
We chose Mariana to act as the girl because she has previously acted, making her the right choice for the role of the girl in our opening sequence.

Anthony - Detective/stalker (right)
Anthony was chosen to be the detective/stalker because he has the most acting experience of all the people in our group. Also, he has previously played the main sinister protagonist in other productions, therefore he is comfortable to play this role in our opening sequence, as these previous characters have similar qualities.
Charlie - Boyfriend of girl (left)
Charlie was chosen to play the minor role of boyfriend of the girl because he has previous acting experience. Also, due to Charlie having the least acting experience of the three actors, it is appropriate that he given the role with the least screen-time.

Scripting

Interview room
Bateman: Hello, I am D.I. Bateman and it is good to finally see u again. My team and I have been working on your case for the past few days, as a result of this I would like to ask you a few questions on the letters you have been receiving.
Bateman: I know this may be difficult for you, but is there anyone that would want to hurt you, in any way?
Girl: I… I… I don’t… I don’t know
Bateman: is there anything in the past to have made someone annoyed at you?

Chosen costumes

We chose this costume and makeup for because it is the type of fashion that a teenage girl would wear, typically; wanting to be fashionable and fit in with the crowd.

We chose this suit for our detective because it suggests that the detective is formal, and imposes a stereotype, as it is stereotypical that a detective would wear a grey suit. The suit also suggests that the detective is quite high in the socio-economic scale and has a high status.

Creative locations

The underpass on the path next to George abbot can be a location for the filming of our opening sequence because of the secluded and seemingly, isolated scene. This would also be a good scene because as it can seem spooky during at night-time, and imposes a feeling of feeling isolated and rundown, due to the graffiti and poor state of the tunnel under the train line and surrounding walls.

Another location in which filming can take place is on Guildford county's Urnfield fields. these can be good for a location for filming our opening sequence as it can seem spooky at night.

The merrow downs s another good location for our opening sequence because of the large empty space, and therefore this would be a perfect for a pursuit scene.

Creative Locations.

I feel like this location would be good for our opening scene because you could see the kind of lifestyle that the kidnapper lives. This is a location in which most people that tend to cause trouble or just want to be trouble makers hang out, it's not the best place to hang out at because it looks quite run down and as if no one takes care of it.
To sum it up it looks shady and suspicious, and scary specially at night

I think this location would fit our opening scene because it could show the lifestyle the victim has, the places she goes to and the people she hangs out with.
Maybe she lives nearby so she always has to walk through the centre of the town to get home, which also happens to be near the previously mentioned place that is run down and so looks like it could be where dangerous people hang out, so it's risky to walk nearby

Opening Sequence timeline notes

These notes show a first draft of our timeline, with each different coloured post-it note showing a different part of the opening sequence:
-Pink: A summary of what the scene will show the audience
-Yellow: Any scenes, props, other mise-en-scene that the audience will see
-Green: Any overlaying titles/captions

Titles

I think that the filmed title, The Runner, was the more effective title because it included a better font for the titles and included first-hand camera-work, which the second, The Hit, did not include.

What Went Well: It had images that linked directly to the narrative. The titles linked well to the narrative and the images in the titles as the colour sticks-out to the audience in the vibrant colours of the images, as well as the font bearing resemblance to text used by clubs and nightclubs which suggest the setting of the narrative.
Even Better If: Better sources and possible computer animated instead of several still images.

What Went Well: The scene immediately links to the narrative due to the sock hanging out of the trainer, which links to one of the main characters, the runner. The font can be easily seen and catches the audiences attention as the titles appear and disappear.
Even Better If: There were more shots as there are not many shots used. Handling of the camera can also be improved.
For our opening scene we will use the plain white text but have it scroll across the screen so that it is easy enough for the audience to read on the darker background.
