Mission Impossible Opening Scene Analysis

Positioning
The positioning here shows a juxtaposition of Jim Phelps being looked down at by an air hostess who is serving Mr Phelps which makes it seem as if she has power over him, which the audience doesn’t yet know about. The position of the screen in the middle adds to the confidentiality that the information that Mr Phelps is receiving, which supports the fact that it is an action film because it is suggesting a mission that needs to be done.
Lighting
The fact that in this scene is shot half in the dark makes it seem as if the air hostess is the enemy because she’s in the dark making Mr Phelps the hero because he’s in the light and the lighting makes the audience’s  attention be drawn to him.
Acting
Mr Phelps seems to be in a thoughtful state of mind as his mission is being explained to him. He is probably thinking of how he’s going to do in order to complete this mission successfully.
Costume
Mr Phelps is wearing a suit which portrays him to the audience as a business man on the way to an important meeting or a job trip.
Hair/Make-up
The air hostesses is wearing quite natural looking make up and her hair is tied back giving it a professional look seen as she is doing her job.
Expression
Mr Phelps has a neutral face expression and the air hostess seems to be quite friendly so she has a smile on her face.
Setting
The scene takes place on a plane which makes it seem dangerous as something could happen on the plane, such as a fight because the bad guy is on board and the good guy knows.
Props
A picture which I assume is of Mr Phelps’ wife which suggest he’s thinking of her, cigars which the smoke is used to hide the burning tape and the tape that contains the information about the mission that Mr Phelps has to undertake.
