Audience research

Inferno is made for the age of 15-30 year olds, which are male and are middle management. The psychographic group that Inferno fits in to is explorers as they would enjoy more adventurous films.
The poster has Tom Hanks in the centre, with a red and black mysterious spiral behind him. It is written by the same person who wrote the famous enigma code film, "The Da Vinci Code" showing that this film is most likely an enigma code film as well. The Trailer shows the enigma code film as well by the plot developing. This targets the middle management and the psychographic group because it shows adventure which their target audience is. Furthermore the social media page shows the mysterious theme from the thumbnail of the video which is black and white apart from the red writing on it. This shows adventure even more

Titles

There are 9 titles in this clip that are shown, the first titles are the company production and producers and the person or company that created the story that helped base the movie.
The style of the font used suggests that the movie is quite modern and the way in which they are shown suggests that most of the action in the movie either happens at night or high up over a city, therefore that is why the titles are the lights of the skyscrapers.
A similarity between Se7en and Daredevil titles is that the style of the font clearly shows what the movie may be about and what the genre of the movie is.
However it is very different because it follows a different narrative theory.
I think both genres are good because they both have unique things about them that the audience likes, however I feel as if Se7en is better because it links more to the story of the movie.

Audience Research; Genres

As part of our research into the most popular current genres, we researched what were the most popular films in cinemas at current.

Deepwater Horizon is an Action Thriller.
Inferno is a Conspiracy Thriller.
The Girl On The Train is a Psychological Thriller.
The Accountant is a Drama Thriller.
Magnificent Seven is an Action Thriller.

From this research, we conclude that thriller films are very popular, but the most popular genre currently in cinemas is Action-Thriller, this is due to the large amount of films that use this genre. From what we have gathered in this task, we will make our film appeal to audiences by making our film be a thriller film.

Opening Titles; Entwined

WWW: This title video is good because of the idea of using the phone and clips that link with the title of the film.
EBI; It could be better if there were more titles such as the production company and the producer and director.

Titles

I think that the filmed title, The Runner, was the more effective title because it included a better font for the titles and included first-hand camera-work, which the second, The Hit, did not include.

What Went Well: It had images that linked directly to the narrative. The titles linked well to the narrative and the images in the titles as the colour sticks-out to the audience in the vibrant colours of the images, as well as the font bearing resemblance to text used by clubs and nightclubs which suggest the setting of the narrative.
Even Better If: Better sources and possible computer animated instead of several still images.

What Went Well: The scene immediately links to the narrative due to the sock hanging out of the trainer, which links to one of the main characters, the runner. The font can be easily seen and catches the audiences attention as the titles appear and disappear.
Even Better If: There were more shots as there are not many shots used. Handling of the camera can also be improved.
For our opening scene we will use the plain white text but have it scroll across the screen so that it is easy enough for the audience to read on the darker background.

Audience Research; Genres

There are 4 thrillers on show.

First of all, there is "The Accountant" this is classified as an action-thriller
Secondly, there is "The Girl On The Train" this is classified as a psychological-thriller
Thirdly, there is "Jack Reacher" this is also classified as an action-thriller
Lastly, there is "Inferno" this is classified as an conspiracy-thriller

From this selection, it is clear that action-thrillers are the most popular at the moment. This tells us that the audience favours exciting but also suspenseful films.

Film opening titles

There are twenty titles in the opening sequence of Indiana Jones and raiders of the lost ark. The most important titles, the director, producer, and production company are shown at the start and at the end of the credits. This is done as these are the most likely titles that the audience are going to remember, if none of the other titles.

The font used links to the genre as it suggests mystery and adventure. The lettering of the titles, the letters being block-like, suggests there is a big event to come in the story.

There are few similarities between this film and Se7en titles as these films follow different film theories.

Prelimitary Storyboard and Layout

A storyboard and a layout was done for our preliminary task so that we had a broad layout of what was going to happen in our preliminary task, as well as to have some practice at drawing and writing a storyboard for when we draw and write our storyboard for our opening sequence.

Representation

WWW: editing techniques such as layering, colour isolation and differing speeds are shown throughout. Good lighting is also shown.
EBI: better lighting, as not all the scenes were well lit. More work on the camera settings as not all the scenes are well lit, this can be improved by selecting the correct ISO.
